It had to happen eventually, I suppose. At some point between the hearty successes of Scooby-Doo, Garfield, and Alvin and the Chipmunks and the less remarkable grosses of Underdog and Marmaduke came a green light for the big-screen bow of our favorite good-for-nuthin' picnic-basket thief, Yogi Bear, and here it is (in 3-D!, no less).

The '60s animated show has been upgraded to the, um, '10s, with the computer-generated likes of Yogi (voiced by well-known and probably well-paid vodka salesman Dan Aykroyd) and Boo-Boo (the surprisingly versatile and probably well-paid Justin Timberlake) running around live-action co-stars Anna Faris, T.J. Miller and Tom Cavanagh. If this trailer is any indication, then these bears will likely proceed to maul each and every camper that visits Jellystone Park over the course of the film.

Just kidding! After all, this is director Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D!) we're talking about; I don't think he's ready for hard-PG turf just yet. (Again, kidding, Brevvy! The Brevster! 'Vig Newton! Man, it's late here...) What was I saying? Oh, right. Like it or not, Yogi Bear opens December 17 on those 3-D! screens not already dominated by Tron: Legacy.

Watch the trailer after the jump.
