It doesn't matter if you're a guy or girl, if you were around Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum's age back in 1992, 3 Ninjas was probably a favorite. It's three boys learning karate from their grandfather and then putting their skills to use on a bumbling team of crooks along with some Kevin McCallister-style tactics, what's not to love? Thanks to Starz Kids & Family I've been reliving one of my childhood favorites over and over again because the film is flooding the rotation.
I thought writing a Scenes We Love piece on this one would be easy, but it's nearly impossible to narrow down the selection and pick just one part. The whole house invasion sequence is fantastic, but it's such a massive chunk of the film and there was no way I was going to be able to pick just one element. The construction room beat down, the kitchen assault, instant diarrhea, how could I choose?
There was no choice but to backtrack and that's when I found the perfect moment, a scene in which there's still some brotherly love, a handful of childish but endlessly amusing taunts and the boys kick some butt, the basketball scene. Colt may be able to deliver a mean kick, but the big guys at school don't know that and opt to pick on him when his basketball lands at their feet. On cue, the bully duo is joined by a posse of jerks who back them up, standing in a perfectly cheesy don't-mess-with-us pose and that's when the entire playground comes to check out the action. I went to a pretty tame school, but will the entire student body actually come running when one kid yells, "Fight?"
