You might have assumed, like I did, that Jovanka Vuckovic, the former editor of Rue Morgue magazine, was leaving her days as head of the mag behind to become a stay-at-home mom to her newborn baby. Turns out that making babies was only part of Ms. Vuckovic's plan -- she's been gearing up The Captured Bird, her feature film debut, with Guillermo del Toro onboard as executive producer.

The Captured Bird certainly sounds right up del Toro's alley. It's a dark, horror-tinged fantasy about a little girl that follows a crack in the pavement to a mysterious building occupied by dark creatures inspired in part by the supernatural phenomenon known as "shadow people." Though this is Vuckovic's first feature as writer-director, she's got some of horror's heavy-hitters publicly rooting for her (George A. Romero, John Landis, and Mick Garris) and the film, which is still in pre-production, already has guaranteed screening slots at Fantastic Fest, Toronto After Dark, and Fantasia Film Fest.

You can become part of the production of The Captured Bird through donations. You might just be helping out the next big name in horror filmmaking!
