Someone is on the verge of becoming a very big deal. After Emma Stone successfully proved she could carry a film on her shoulders with' Easy A', the whip-smart up-and-comer is now being eyed for lead roles in two upcoming Sony projects: '21 Jump Street' and 'Spider-Man'.

With '21 Jump Street', Stone would play the female lead opposite Jonah Hill in a big-screen version of the popular late- 80s television series about a police unit that sends officers undercover into a high school as students. Hill and Josh Appelbaum wrote the script, which Phil Lord ('Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs') will direct, with production beginning early next year.

Meanwhile, on the 'Spider-Man' front, Stone is circling one of two lead female roles. Variety says she's on a list that also includes Lily Collins,Teresa Palmer and Mia Wasikowska, and that the part is not that of Mary Jane Watson (played by Kristen Dunst in the original films). Other reports suggest Wasikowska and Stone are going out for two different parts; one of which could be Gwen Stacy, who appeared briefly in 'Spider-Man 3' and was played by Bryce Dallas Howard. That role could go to Wasikowska, while Stone may be trying out for the part of Betty Brant, the Daily Bugle secretary who Parker once dated.

Obviously Sony likes what they see in Stone and want to keep her in the family, much like they're already doing with Andrew Garfield (who starred in Sony's 'The Social Network', and is now playing Spider-Man), and Rooney Mara (who starred in 'The Social Network' and is now playing Lisbeth Salandar in Sony's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' adaptation).

Marc Webb ('500 Days of Summer') is directing 'Spider-Man' (due out July 3rd, 2012), and with Stone and Garfield in the lead roles, he'd have plenty of talent to help usher in a new big-screen era for everyone's favorite webslinger. What do you think?
