On Tuesday, Warner Home Video rereleased not one or two but 24 of Humphrey Bogart's classic films on DVD in a new box set, entitled 'Humphrey Bogart: The Essential Collection.' Additionally, they released two of his most famous movies, 'The Maltese Falcon' and 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre,' on Blu-ray, complete with a cross-section of documentaries and other extras for fans new and old.
Having looked at the transfers on these new high-definition discs, we can say that they look breathtaking – clearer and more vivid, even in black and white, than either of the films has ever been seen before. Meanwhile, Cinematical obtained an exclusive clip from the bonus materials on the 'Sierra Madre,' where distinguished film critic and scholar Leonard Maltin discusses the subtle and yet effective ways in which director John Huston was able to motivate his actors.
