Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan needs help.

His last few films -- aside from 'The Last Airbender' -- have been critical and audience disasters and his latest outing, 'Devil,' which he wrote but didn't direct, was an out and out bomb. It just seems that he's been on a bumpy road since his auspicious debut with 'The Sixth Sense' in 1999. And his most recent project, which came with Bruce Willis, Bradley Cooper and Gwyneth Paltrow loosely attached, never found a buyer and was quietly shelved, according to THR's HeatVision blog.

Which is why this bit of news is cheery: Will Smith and his Overbrook production company are working with Shyamalan on an ultra clandestine sci-fi project, titled 'One Thousand A. E.' Smith, of course, has a golden touch, and Overbrook, which is run by Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith, is on a roll, with several hits under its belt and a whopping 31 projects in some stage of development. Overbrook also has a first-look deal with Sony.
