What It's About: After her 18th birthday, Joni (Mia Wasikowska), the daughter of lesbian couple Nic and Jules (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore), decides to find her biological father at the urging of her younger brother, Laser (Josh Hutcherson). They end up meeting their father, Paul (Mark Ruffalo), a somewhat-bewildered restaurant owner who does not quite have his life together. Sensing that this family he unknowingly helped father could help ground him, Paul grows close to Joni and especially Jules, which strains the small family since Nic does not want Paul in their lives.
