CBS Films has decided to take a chance on 'Gambit' and has picked up U.S. rights to the remake of the 1966 British comedy that starred Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine. This is one redo that boasts a fine pedigree: The screenplay is by Joel and Ethan Coen, the director is Michael Hoffman ('The Last Station') and the film stars Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz. The story centers on an art curator (Firth) who enlists the services of a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to help him con a wealthy collector into buying a phony Monet painting. Shooting begins in London this May. [TheWrap]
