Just days after a press conference celebrating his upcoming film about mobster John Gotti, director Nick Cassavetes is leaving the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Cassavetes, whose other films include 'The Notebook' and 'Alpha Dog,' cited conflicts with his indie drama 'Yellow,' starring Sienna Miller, Ben Foster and Luke Wilson.

John Travolta will play the late Gotti, the head of the Gambino crime family, and Lindsay Lohan is in negotiations for the role of John's daughter, Victoria. Joe Pesci will play Angelo Ruggerio, Gotti's crime associate who was known to threaten enemies with man-eating sharks.

Both Travolta and Lohan, along with Gotti's children John A. Gotti and Victoria, were at the April 12 news conference for 'Gotti: Three Generations.'

Producers are now seeking a new director who can keep the project on track for a fall start date.
