We can remember when Scholastic was a weekly magazine distributed to elementary school kids. Now, of course, its a multi-billion-dollar media empire that attracts the likes of Steven Spielberg to its directing ranks. And while Spielberg won't be working with Scholastic on one of their next ventures, Brett Ratner will.

The director of 'Rush Hour' and 'X-Men: The Last Stand' has been tapped to helm 'The 39 Clues,' a live-action adaptation of the bestselling young-adult Scholastic Media series that combines books, online games and card collections to uncover clues to the mysterious fortune behind the Cahills, the most powerful family in the world. (So far there are 11 books in the series -- franchise, anyone?)
