Tampering with a classic is always risky business, so it's nice to see director Rod Lurie ('The Contender') has decided not to go the literal route with his remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film 'Straw Dogs,' which starred Dustin Hoffman.

In Lurie's take, a young couple, played by Kate Bosworth and James Marsden, who scored a recent hit with the Easter film 'Hop,' move to her family home in rural Louisiana to prepare it for sale after her father's death, but encounter resistance from locals (led by 'True Blood' vamp Alexander Skarsgard) that leads to a deadly, late-night confrontation where only one side or the other will come out alive.

'Straw Dogs' hits theaters Sept. 16. Check out the trailer after the jump.
