Actress Joely Richardson is so upset over an unauthorized biography about her famous family -- which includes mother Vanessa Redgrave, director Tony Richardson and late sister Natasha Richardson -- that she's planning legal action against author Tim Adler.

The actress (who'll co-star in the upcoming remake of 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,') wrote an essay in the British newspaper The Telegraph, dismissing 'The House of Redgrave - The Secret Lives of the Theatrical Dynasty,' as "prurient, contemptible hackery."

"The articles reduced my parents to the labels of 'Bisexual Father and Marxist Mother,'" Richardson writes. One of her biggest complaints is the book's sensationalism that has inspired headlines such as "the day Vanessa Redgrave walked in to find her husband in bed with her father." That's an unconfirmed incident that Richardson calls both "silly as pie" and "highly defamatory."
