After announcing last month that he'd be directing himself in 'The Idolmaker,' Ryan Gosling has now backed out from the project altogether since we can't all be James Franco and tackle 500 different projects at the same time. With starring roles in 'Drive,' which recently premiered at Cannes; 'Crazy Stupid Love,' which comes out next month; George Clooney's 'The Ides of March'; a remake of 'Logan's Run'; and a reunion with 'Blue Valentine' director Derek Cianfrance in 'The Place Beyond the Pines' all slated for the next year, we can hardly blame the guy.

Still, as ecstatic as we are to see Gosling getting his due, we're awfully interested to see how his directing chops measure up to his status as one of the better up-and-coming leading men.
