This should bring a 'Smile' to your face: John Wells ('ER,' 'The West Wing') and 'The Tree of Life' producer Bill Pohlad have teamed to buy the life rights to Brian Wilson and are developing a feature film about the pop icon, according to the L.A. Times' 24 Frames blog.

Wilson's tumultuous life and musical career -- from fronting and writing songs and lyrics for The Beach Boys beginning in 1961 through his creation of one of the greatest rock albums of all time, 1966's 'Pet Sounds,' then to his disillusionment, drug abuse and nervous breakdown after the failure of his 'Smile' project in 1967 (and the concomitant failure of its replacement album, 'Smiley Smile') to his eventual rehabilitation -- is the stuff of movies.
