You'd be forgiven for feeling a bit of '80s nostalgia this summer. With 'The Smurfs' and 'Transformers' taking over the box office and 'Teen Wolf' on the tube, it'd be hard not to feel a little wistful for the Saturday morning cartoons of your youth.
There's certainly no shortage of classic '80s kids fare being remade into movies, some more successfully than others. 'The Chipmunks' flicks did the beloved franchise justice. The 'Garfield' movies, not so much. (How did that sequel get green-lit? Why did Bill Murray sign on for not one, but two 'Garfield' abominations? But I digress.)
There are even rumors floating around about live-action versions of 'Jem and the Holograms' and 'Thundercats.' I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't be all over a 'Jem' remake. I just hope the studios would treat my beloved Jem a little more carefully than, say, the live action 'Scooby Doo' movie starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. several years back. Remember that? Yeah, didn't think so.
