Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that 'Ghostbusters III' is on for 2012 with an "excellent script" but a lot of the details are still up in the air. Like, who's going to be in it.
Is Bill Murray in or out? Aykroyd told Denis Miller Radio, "Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope." Which doesn't sound like a sure thing at all. It sounds like Aykroyd was talking about the previous two films when he said "Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way," but the concept "is bigger than any one component."
The actor added that the threequel would find the original Ghostbusters ready to pass the torch to a new generation: "We get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood. My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the Cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't pick up the pack. Harold [Ramis], Egon, is too large to get into the harness."
