Hollywood never tires of remakes or sequels -- and neither do audiences. Since the days of the silents, a good redo or franchise has been hard to stop -- even some 75 years later.

Deadline has reported that Johnny Depp's pet project -- a remake of the 1934 'The Thin Man,' which the actor has set up at Warner Bros. -- is taking off with David Koepp ('Death Becomes Her,' 'Angels & Demons') set to write the script.

Depp -- who will produce -- has lined up his 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' director Rob Marshall to helm the remake, with Depp taking the lead role of Nick Charles (played by William Powell in the original), a former detective who, along with his rich, playful wife Nora (Myrna Loy), solve a murder case mostly for the fun of it. The original, based on Dashiell Hammett's novel, spawned a series of five sequels as well as a TV show in the 1950s.

No word on who will play Nora. Who do you think should join Depp in the film?
