Lost in all the box-office gymnastics about 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' over the weekend was the fact that 'The Descendants,' the George Clooney-led dramedy about a father reconnecting with his young daughters in the face of a family tragedy, was an indie smash. Debuting in just 29 theaters, the Alexander Payne film took in $1.2 million, good for tenth place and a per-screen average of $42,138 -- roughly $8,000 more per-screen than 'Breaking Dawn.' 'The Descendants' has already received rave reviews and seems poised to be one of the biggest players during Oscar season, which is why you should get to know it now -- if you haven't gotten a chance to see the film already. Above, watch Clooney calm his onscreen daughter down by promising to get his other onscreen daughter back from school. What's that they say about the best laid plans of mice and men?
