Most actors wouldn't threaten their relationship with one of the most successful filmmakers of all time. Then again, Nick Nolte isn't like most actors. In the January issue of GQ, the 70-year-old star recalls a rather unfortunate experience at the 1999 Academy Awards with Martin Scorsese. During the ceremony, Scorsese and Robert De Niro -- who Nolte had previously worked with on 'Cape Fear' -- presented an honorary award to filmmaker Elia Kazan. Some in the audience would not applaud for Kazan, because -- in addition to directing films such as 'On the Waterfront' -- Elia also "named names" during the Communist witch hunts of the 1950s. One of the people who held their applause was Nolte.
