Back in February of 2010, when "Stretch Armstrong" was set up at Universal with producer Brian Grazer, the "Twilight" star was discussed as a possible lead. Now, Relativity and Hasbro will embark on a new search to find Armstrong, an action figure that was first created in 1976.
"We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Hasbro, a company whose global reach and ability to innovate has made them immensely successful in the arena of brand re-imagination-- as evidenced by their legacy of creating such franchises as 'Transformers' and 'G.I. Joe,'" said Relativity co-president Tucker Tooley in a statement to Variety.
In addition to the two franchises mentioned by Tooley, Hasbro also has "Battleship" coming out later this year, through Universal. The toy company has seen its co-productions gross nearly $3 billion in worldwide grosses since "Transformers" was released in 2007. Translation: expect to buy your kids plenty of Stretch Armstrong toys when the film is eventually released on April 11, 2014.
