Fall is here, and in Movieland that means only one thing: Oscar season. Yes, it's hard to believe that it's been seven months since Uggie and company made their way (silently, of course) toward Best Picture gold. So what will the Academy Awards have in store this year? Well, considering we're still five months away from the big night, it's tough to tell. However, for now, Oscar fans can at least find solace in expert predictions (and who doesn't love those things?!)

Several buzzed-about films are already making their way to the top of the list this year. According to the prediction site Gold Derby (which, full disclosure, I have voted in), critics are split over two films for best picture: David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" and Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." Also getting love are Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables" adaptations and Ben Affleck's "Argo."

While experts are also split on the Best Actor category -- ten have selected Daniel Day-Lewis for his Honest Abe portrayal in "Lincoln," while eight have selected Joaquin Phoenix in "The Master" -- they have given overwhelming support to "Silver Linings Playbook" star Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress. On the supporting side, 12 out of 18 critics selected Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master") as the favorite in the Actor category; Anne Hathaway in "Les Miserables" is the favorite for Actress.

You can check out all of the Oscar predictions over on Gold Derby. Make sure to stay tuned to Moviefone from now until February for all your Oscar-related news. The 85th Academy Award Nominations will be announced on January 10, 2013, with the official ceremony going down on February 24.
