Plenty of eyebrows were raised when "Gossip Girl" actor Penn Badgley was cast as the late Jeff Buckley in "Greetings From Tim Buckley." Now, the official trailer has arrived, giving us a better idea of Badgley's chops as an actor and singer.

The movie takes place just before Jeff's first show, which was a tribute to his late father, singer Tim Buckley. The new trailer shows how the film interweaves the tale of these two tormented musicians (Tim is played by Ben Rosenfield). Imogen Poots also shows up as Allie, a love interest whom Jeff befriends while in New York City.

Besides "Gossip Girl," Badgley's been working steadily on TV shows and in film for years. His more recent roles in "Margin Call" and "Easy A" won him some kudos, but the question is whether or not he can pull of such a high-stakes performance. Jeff Buckley is a beloved musician in his own right who died in a tragic accident at the age of 30, and Badgley knows people are "skeptical."

You'll be able to judge for yourself when the film becomes available on demand April 16, with a limited theatrical release on May 3.
