Shawn Ashmore certainly knows how to remain cool under pressure.

As FBI Agent Mike Weston, the Canadian actor has been helping hunt for serial killer Joe Carroll in the chilling TV series "The Following." He previously contended with ferocious wolves and extreme temperatures in the horror thriller "Frozen."

Now, he's gearing up to reprise his role as the sub-zero mutant Bobby Drake/Iceman in the highly anticipated sequel, "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Currently promoting "The Following," Ashmore weighed in about suiting up for a fourth "X-Men" movie.

Moviefone:You begin filming the new "X-Men" movie soon and are well aware of the "Days of Future Past" comic books. It's an important and epic story in the "X-Men" canon. Are you curious how they'll squeeze everything in?Ashmore: I'm very curious how they're going to squeeze everything in. It's a huge and important storyline. It gives us the opportunity to bring these two worlds together, the "First Class" timeline or alternate universe, whatever you want to call it, into the "X-Men" trilogy universe. It's exciting to have all these actors and characters, especially at different ages. I love the idea of having the Professor and Magneto at different ages in the same film. It's an interesting concept, if done well, which I think Bryan Singer will do an excellent job on. I really trust him coming back after doing the first two films and absolutely killing this story. The potential for this to be a gigantic story with all these incredible characters and actors is there. It's happening and it's exciting.

In "X-Men 3: The Last Stand," Bobby literally became an iceman. How would you like to see his powers further manifest or develop? Ideally, and I honestly don't know what's going to happen, I want to see the ice slide. As a fan of the "X-Men" characters, I've wanted to see that from day one. It's just such an iconic, cool way of transportation. I was always hoping, whenever the next movie came along, that we would do that. We'll just have to wait and see.

Are you hoping they stick to the black leather costumes, switch it up with something sleek and colourful, or return to civilian clothes? I don't have a preference. I feel like we've done the black leather, so I'd be okay if there was a new design. But I also think they work very well. It was a great decision to go there. People, especially fans, were taken aback when they saw these black leather outfits and it wasn't going to be the more colourful, spandex Wolverine with the orange and brown. I liked the leather, so I'd be okay if they returned. Also, we've done them for three movies, so if there was something different, that would be cool too.

It could be worse. Bobby had a spandex Speedo costume once. Yeah, there's definitely that. I can't remember the storyline, but he wears a bandana thing. It looks great in the comics, but I'm not sure I could pull it off in real life.

Lastly, Bobby was in the middle of a love triangle. Are you Team Rogue or Team Kitty Pryde? I have to go Team Rogue, only because of their history. The love triangle between those three, I always think Bobby was with Rogue. There was a moment of connection between Kitty and Bobby. Under certain circumstances, it might have turned into something else. In my brain, it was always Team Rogue because there was that initial romance. That kind of relationship is a bit more fun when you want to be together, but can't be together.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is scheduled for release in 2014.
