Rapper and "American Idol" judge Nicki Minaj is set to trade music for the movies: she's in final negotiations to star alongside Cameron Diaz in the upcoming revenge comedy "The Other Woman."

Diaz stars as the titular other woman who discovers her boyfriend (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is married. She teams up with his wife (Leslie Mann) to concoct a payback scheme, and the pair bring another mistress (Kate Upton) into the fold along the way. Minaj would play the assistant to Diaz's character at a law firm.

The assistant - who's on her third marriage - is described as opinionated and brutally honest, traits Minaj embodies at her "Idol" judging job, which will come in handy for the role. The film will be Minaj's first foray into live action, after she voiced a character in last year's "Ice Age: Continental Drift."

The movie sounds fun and has a promising cast, leading us to be cautiously optimistic about Minaj's multiplex future. If anything, it can't be worse than her fellow "Idol" judge Mariah Carey's notoriously terrible feature debut, "Glitter."
