The third installment in the action-packed Marvel/Disney franchise arrives in theaters this Friday, and it's safe to say it'll come out as the weekend's iron-clad victor. Besides the fact that it's up against, well, nothing, "Iron Man 3" already had a blockbuster weekend overseas, pulling in $192 million -- that's more than "The Avengers" made in the same weekend last year.

In "Iron Man 3," Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is pitted against a ruthless enemy -- per usual. After the villain wreaks havoc on the billionaire's personal life, Stark jets off on a quest to discover who's responsible. The journey tests Iron Man at every turn, leaving him with nothing but his ingenuity to save himself and those he loves. (Pepper Potts perhaps?)

Shane Black ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang") takes over directing duties from Jon Favreau ("Iron Man" & "Iron Man 2"), while Gwyneth Paltrow reprises her role as right-hand woman, Potts. Don Cheadle is also back as James "Rhodey" Rhodes. Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce also star.

OK, so maybe "Iron Man 3" isn't the only movie opening this weekend.

"The Iceman" also hits theaters in limited release on Friday. The thriller tells the true story of mob hitman Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon). At the time of his arrest in 1986, Kuklinski claimed to have killed more than 100 men for multiple crime families. On the surface, the hired gun appeared as a devoted father and loving husband, but, in reality, he was a ruthless murderer who hid his crimes from his clueless family. The movie chronicles Kuklinski's life, from his early years in the mob, to his final arrest. Winona Ryder, James Franco, Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, and Robert Davi also star.

"What Maisie Knew," starring Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgard, also opens in limited release this weekend.
