The movie version of "Fifty Shades of Grey" has finally found someone to crack the directing whip.

Deadline reports that Sam Taylor-Johnson (also known as Sam Taylor-Wood) has been selected to helm the highly anticipated adaptation of the bestselling erotic novel by E.L. James. She made her directorial debut in 2009 with "Nowhere Boy," a biopic about John Lennon's adolescent years.

The hiring of a relatively unseasoned director comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that Gus Van Zant and Joe Wright were among the more high-profile names floated as contenders.

"Sam's unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion, and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia's relationship to life," said producer Michael De Luca.

With "Fifty Shades of Grey," Taylor-Johnson takes on her biggest project yet. The story follows a roguish billionaire named Christian Grey who engages a naive college student, Anastasia Steele, in a BDSM relationship. The novel has been a humongous hit, with over 70 million copies sold.

Now that Taylor-Johnson is on board, new fuel has been added to the casting speculation fire: Could the 46-year-old director's husband, 23-year-old "Kick-Ass" star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (pictured above), play the handsome, brooding Christian? He'll have to compete with basically every Hollywood actor over the age of 20 and under the age of 40 for the role -- but at least he knows someone on the inside.
