The "Veronica Mars" movie may be adding yet another familiar face to its already-sprawling cast, as Zap2it reports that James Franco is considering signing on to play himself in the Kickstarter-funded film adaptation of the beloved TV series.

The site cites an unnamed source who says that Franco would star as one of several celebrities in the movie who are targets of a hidden camera scheme, where an unknown person sneaks into the homes of the rich and famous in order to catch them on surveillance, then sells the footage. Veronica (played by Kristen Bell) would no doubt then be called in for guidance, recruiting friends and family to help crack the case.

In addition to that rumored bit of sleuthing, the movie takes place in part at Veronica's 10-year high school reunion, and the list of returning and new actors has been growing quickly. While his role is still unconfirmed, Franco certainly has been game to play himself in the past, and we think he'd fit in well among the quirky cast of characters populating "Mars"'s orbit.

The movie, written and directed by series creator Rob Thomas, just started shooting in Los Angeles last month. "Veronica Mars" is currently eyeing an early 2014 release.
