'How to Train Your Dragon' PosterDreamWorks

"How to Train Your Dragon" was a pretty important film for DreamWorks Animation in 2010. Not only was it a huge smash, earning over $500 million worldwide, but it proved that DreamWorks Animation features didn't have to rely heavily on lazy gross-out humor and pop-culture references to succeed at the box office. Thankfully, by the looks of this first gorgeous trailer for "How to Train Your Dragon 2," out next summer, the commitment to quality has remained.

The trailer features Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), now noticeably older, riding his pet dragon Toothless. He has some armor on, plus a nifty mask/helmet combo, and his missing leg from the end of the first movie is still missing (such a ballsy decision, even now). He glides over the water, over sea-dwelling dragons exposing their tails and fins, and then boy and dragon ascend into the clouds, where Hiccup untangles himself from Toothless and dives toward earth. In a triumphant moment, he extends his arms and begins to soar like a flying squirrel. If you aren't choked up by the time the clip finishes, you're probably an android.

Dean DeBlois, who co-directed the first film with his "Lilo & Stitch" partner Chris Sanders, is directing "How to Train Your Dragon 2" solo, though when Moviefone talked to Sanders earlier this year for "The Croods," he said he was going to do some storyboards and check in. Much of the cast, including Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, and Kristen Wiig, is set to return, with "Game of Thrones"'s Kit Harington in talks to voice the villain.
