Sylvester Stallone may have just confirmed that Mel Gibson will appear in "The Expendables 3," judging by a cryptic new tweet the action veteran sent out this week.

Late Monday night, Stallone posted the following message to his Twitter followers:

Stallone was no doubt alluding to the title character Gibson played in the 1979 post-apocalyptic action classic "Mad Max," and his own character, Ross, in the "Expendables" films. Does that mean Gibson is a lock to appear in Sly's latest franchise?

The actor offered no further elaboration, though we think Gibson would be a natural fit for the follow-up. After all, the series is already full of former superstars looking to regain their one-time glory, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and newcomers to the franchise Jackie Chan and Nicolas Cage.

Here's hoping Stallone's predicted showdown comes to fruition. "The Expendables 3" is expected to open sometime next year.
