"The Hobbit" trilogy is officially a wrap -- well, at least filming on the series is.

Director Peter Jackson posted photos of the final moments of shooting on his Facebook page on Friday, topping off the documentation with a shot of himself and his cat settling in at one in the morning for some much-needed sleep.

The cast and the director put the finishing touches on "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug," the second film in the series, and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," the final installment, in New Zealand this past week.

Jackson shared pictures of dwarves, crew members, and actor Martin Freeman, who plays the protagonist, hobbit Bilbo Baggins, all of whom looked to be in very good spirits despite their late-night call times.

"Desolation of Smaug" is set to hit theaters this December, and "There and Back Again" will be released in 2014.
