Tom Hiddleston as Loki in 'The Avengers'Marvel

Tom Hiddleston has already tried to destroy Earth as Loki in "Thor" and "The Avengers," and he's going to do so again in "Thor: The Dark World." After that, he'll go after Peter Pan as the infamous Captain Hook in "The Pirate Fairy."

At last weekend's D23 Expo, Disney unveiled the voice cast of that upcoming animated film, which includes Hiddleston as the rogue captain. The actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly why he's so drawn to playing bad guys -- basically, because they're more fun!

"I think villains, really great villains, are always the most complex," Hiddleston explained. "Because in their heart, there is always some kind of deeply complicated psychology that you need to unpack and un-knit and understand."

Hiddleston noted that his character, James, starts off as a kind and innocent cabin boy who then transforms into the evil Hook.

"‚ÄčIt seems to me that 'villains' -- and I put that word in inverted commas -- they are just the most complex. They have the most complicated motivations. They have, quite often, quite broken personalities," he added. "The fun is digging around in why."

Hiddleston doesn't want to be pigeonholed as a bad guy, though, and dropped a reminder that he's also played decent types, like in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris."

"I've played a few heroes as well -- well, not heroes, but like ... good guys," he said. "I don't think F. Scott Fitzgerald had any world-destroying ambitions."

"Great Gatsby" haters may disagree with that.
