It didn't seem possible for Dick Van Dyke to become even more legendary, but the 87-year-old actor's escape from a bizarre car fire yesterday -- and his good-natured response to the incident -- has unlocked a whole new level of cool.
After the multitalented star's new Jaguar randomly caught fire on Highway 101 on August 19, concerned drivers pulled him from the burning vehicle. "[T]here was a fireman, a nurse, and a cop just happened to be passing by," he told TMZ. "Somebody's looking after me."
Naturally, folks on the scene had their smart phones at the ready. Even Van Dyke's wife Arlene made a Vine of the aftermath, which showed her husband in fine fettle.
As The Guardian UK notes, this isn't the first time Van Dyke has had a rather unusual escape from danger. In 2010 he reported being pushed to safety by a group of porpoises, having drifted too far from shore on a surfboard.
