"RoboCop," the 1987 Paul Verhoeven movie starring Peter Weller as a police officer turned cyborg, has received a modern-day upgrade -- in full effect in the first trailer for director José Padilha's 2014 reboot.

"The Killing"'s Joel Kinnaman stars as the titular law enforcer. Having suffered fourth-degree burns on 80 percent of his body, Kinnaman's Alex Murphy gets a new lease on life when he's transformed into RoboCop, "the future of American justice." Supposedly endowed with only "the illusion of free will," RoboCop quickly proves to have retained more of his humanity than his creators had intended.
