Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, and Meryl Streep in 'August: Osage County'The Weinstein Co.

Before teaming up with Meryl Streep in "August: Osage County," Julia Roberts -- like every other actor and actress ever -- had always wanted to work with the three-time Oscar winner.

But when Roberts would picture their inevitable collaboration (really, it had to happen at some point), she envisioned something far less dysfunctional -- a litte more Jane Austen-y, perhaps -- than "August: Osage County," the story of a very unhappy family, of which Streep is the combative, pill-popping, cancer-stricken matriarch.

"It was intimidating, certainly, to be in these scenes with [Streep], choking her, things like that," Roberts said during Tuesday's Toronto Film Festival press conference for the movie, per People. "That's not how I pictured it going in my mind all these years when I thought we'd be together, drinking tea together and speaking in fabulous accents and dressed up and looking very chic."

"And instead there I am sweating and wearing a big butt pad," she said. "So that's not how it was in my dream."

Nevertheless, Roberts reveled in the role. "It was the best acting experience in my life," she gushed. "Our experience was a treasure box of discovery for me. And at the top of the heap was ... Meryl Streep, who showed that it is about working hard. Because I've never seen anybody work harder than she works."

Also starring Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Sam Shepard, and Dermot Mulroney, "August: Osage County" arrives in theaters this Christmas. Because nothing says "happy holidays" quite like watching Roberts choke a Hollywood legend.
