Do you know anyone in the Federal Witness Protection Program? Chances are you don't, or if you do, you don't know you do. It's also slightly possible that you are in the program (but only very slightly). Otherwise there's a great chance you know very little about how it really works and just presume it's like it is in the movies. Well, maybe it is. How would we know?
While many movies have depicted the Witness Protection Program over the years, few have had the witness relocated to another country. That doesn't even seem doable, but that is the premise of the new movie "The Family," which stars Robert De Niro as a mobster who heads to France with his wife and two kids after testifying against others in the mafia.
Whether that or any of these other depictions are authentic, we decided to look to the movies to figure what it's like to be a federally protected witness. If anyone knows the truth from experience, let us know (but obviously don't give your real name).
