Unlike his on-screen persona, Captain Kirk, William Shatner will NOT be going to the final frontier.
As the Daily Mail reports, mogul Richard Branson offered Shatner the opportunity to travel to space aboard the Virgin Galactic Spaceship Two. But the "Star Trek" icon turned him down -- because he's afraid of flying!
"He actually said he's frightened of airline travel -- which is slightly disillusioning. Captain Kirk is scared of flying," Branson told The Sun.
But the 82-year-old begs to differ. In 2011, Shatner told reporters that he didn't sign on because Branson expected him to pony some $200,000 for the trip. The tycoon is a stickler for not giving out freebies to celebrities.
"He wanted me to go up and pay for it and I said: 'Hey, you pay me and I'll go up. I'll risk my life for a large sum of money,'" Shatner said. "But he didn't pick me up on my offer."
Branson himself will be on board Spaceship Two's inaugural flight, which is set for December 25.
