"Fruitvale Station" star Michael B. Jordan is reportedly being eyed for a significant role in the upcoming "Independence Day" sequels.

The Wrap reports that multiple sources associated with the movies -- called "ID Forever Part I" and "ID Forever Part II" -- say Jordan is high on their list to take the undisclosed part, and that the actor has expressed interest. They stress that no offers have been made, and director Roland Emmerich has met with several candidates, though Jordan is already attached to star as the Human Torch in another Fox property, the "Fantastic Four" reboot, and that existing association with the studio could help his chances.

Based on earlier statements from Emmerich, the sequels will feature Will Smith's stepson from the original film in a major role. Could that be the part Jordan is in the running for?

No matter who he might play, Jordan's alleged interest in the "ID Forever" films makes sense, based on statements he made to Vulture during a recent interview. Jordan said he wants to "do movies that appeal to everybody ... playing characters that aren't written for the black guy."

"I want to play that action hero, that guy that saves the day," he added.

Looks like he has a chance to do just that.
