12 Years a Slave - Clip No.1

In "12 Years a Slave," Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) finds himself in an impossible situation: he's a free man from the North who's been sold into slavery. Ripped away from his wife and children, he's now doing everything in his power to get back to them, a point he makes here to Eliza (Adepero Oduye), a fellow slave who questions his method of sucking up to Master Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch). The clip is a powerful, poignant reminder of the hardships our country went through less than 200 years ago.

"12 Years a Slave," directed by Steve McQueen, has already gotten overwhelming critical praise after a run at the Telluride, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals. Co-starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Brad Pitt, and more, the film will get a limited theatrical release this Friday. Before it hits theaters, get an exclusive look at the movie in the video above.
