The Wrap reports that Hardy has signed a deal to don the iconic shades of the singer in the film written by Lee Hall ("War Horse") and directed by Michael Gracey.
"Rocketman" chronicles John's life from the age of 5, when he was a young musical prodigy, to his time at the Royal Academy of Music to the evolution of his outrageous persona. John plans to re-record many of his hits for the movie.
Hardy, who first broke out Stateside in "Inception," has a full plate, which is now even more packed. He next stars in the thriller "Locke" and the reboot of "Mad Max," and recently finished filming on "Child 44" and "Animal Rescue." "Rocketman" is due to begin filming next fall.
