2014's mutant extravaganza "X-Men: Days of Future Past," coming less than a year after this summer's mostly wonderful, weirdly overlooked "The Wolverine," is going to be crazy. It features time travel (along with two sets of actors playing the iconic mutants), plus alternate dimensions, giant robots, and god knows what else. In fact, it could be too much of a good thing. But a new set of photos, courtesy of Empire, has us at the very least intrigued.
The movie, which combines the cast of the original "X-Men" movies with the "X-Men: First Class" kids in a story that has Wolverine traveling backwards in time to thwart the production of the mutant-hunting robots known as Sentinels, will once again be helmed by Bryan Singer, who made "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United" (he sat out the past two movies).
Two of the best photos, obviously, feature the luminous Jennifer Lawrence, who will once again be playing the blue-hued shape shifter Mystique, a role she portrayed in "X-Men: First Class" (in the original series of films it was essayed by Rebecca Romjin). We are particularly fond of her in the floppy seventies hat, although chances are she won't crack a smile in the actual movie (mutants are serious!)
There are also wonderful shots of James McAvoy, putting his "chess face" on as Professor X in a match against his BFF/mortal enemy Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and Hugh Jackman, looking all shot-up and shirtless and rocking some pretty amazing Wolverine hair. Check out the photos below and click over to Empire for other shots of mutants Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), and old man Professor X (Patrick Stewart).
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" hits theaters next summer, but watch out for the first teaser trailer set to debut next week.
