'Amazing Spider-Man 2' To Be Scored By Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, & MoreFilmMagic/Getty

Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams -- known as one half of production duo The Neptunes and pretty much this past summer's sole musical king (remember Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and "Lose Yourself to Dance"?) -- have made beautiful movie music together before.

The two teamed up for the soundtrack to "Despicable Me," with Williams penning a handful of lovable, hum-along songs (Williams returned for the sequel, Zimmer did not), and Williams even provided drums for Zimmer's militaristic "Man of Steel" score. So it's not all that surprising that they would reteam for next summer's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." What is kind of a shock is who they brought along for the ride.

The group that will be scoring "Amazing Spider-Man 2" is a veritable who's-who of insanely talented contemporary musicians. Joining Williams and Zimmer are former Smiths guitarist (and sometime Modest Mouse member) Johnny Marr, Incubus' Michael Einziger, and former Eurythmic Dave Stewart. It's gonna be a web-slinging jam band, baby!

"Marc and I were talking about "Spider-Man," and as the word got out, so many of our friends and musicians started calling us up, wanting to be a part of it, because they love Spider-Man," Zimmer said in a statement released by Sony. "That was the thing that united all of us the great love for Spider-Man. With all of these hugely talented people wanting to join us, it was Marc who said, 'Why not start a band?' Marc and I have had a great start jamming with everybody, and we still have a few surprises up our sleeve."

Zimmer has worked with many of the musicians separately (Marr on "Inception," Einziger on "The Lone Ranger," and Stewart on "Madagascar 3"), but this is the first time he's brought them all together on one project. It should be really exciting... or a horrible, horrible mess.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which has our friendly neighborhood wall crawler (played once again by Andrew Garfield) face off against a whole squadron of villains (led by Jamie Foxx's Electro), swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
