The Times of London reports that the "12 Years a Slave" star recently met with "Epsiode VII" director J.J. Abrams, fueling rumors that he's in contention for a part in the hotly-anticipated first part of a new "Star Wars" trilogy. Reporter Rhys Blakely writes that he spotted Ejiofor waiting in the lobby of Abrams's office building, and asked the director point-blank if the actor was up for an "Episode VII" role.
Abrams declined to comment, but called Ejiofor "a very talented gentleman."
Of course, Ejiofor is just the latest big name rumored to be involved with the project. One star that keeps coming back into the conversation -- despite firm denials from his representatives -- is Benedict Cumberbatch, who Abrams made a similarly enigmatic comment about back in September. We already know Cumberbatch can do a mean Chewbacca impression; maybe that was part of his audition?
Here's hoping Abrams and co. make some casting announcements soon. "Star Wars: Episode VII" is due out sometime in 2015 -- for now.
