Weekend Movie Preview - Thor: The Dark World
This weekend, The God of Thunder returns to Earth to fight off an evil villain in "Thor: The Dark World," and a young girl in Nazi Germany steals books in "The Book Thief."

In "Thor: The Dark World," Alan Taylor's sequel to 2011's "Thor," Chris Hemsworth returns as the titular Norse superhero. When the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) threatens the fate of the universe, Thor must make an alliance with his enemy/brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), to save the day. If you're craving some cool CGI-packed action sequences and epic superhero fights, then this sequel is sure to quench your thirst.

From "Downton Abbey" director Brian Percival, "The Book Thief" stars newcomer Sophie Nelisse as Liesel, a young girl who finds solace in stealing books during WWII in Germany. Once Liesel comes to live with her new adoptive parents, played by Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, she soon discovers that they are secretly sheltering a Jewish refugee in their basement. This war drama is sure to warm some hearts and induce some tears.

  • In "A Case of You," co-written by and starring Justin Long, a young writer tries to impress a girl (Evan Rachel Wood) by lying about himself in his online profile.
  • Alex Gibney's documentary "The Armstrong Lie" offers an intimate look at Lance Armstrong and chronicles the rise and fall of the star cyclist.
  • Justin Long stars in another movie, "Best Man Down," which follows a newlywed couple who cancel their honeymoon to attend the funeral of their late best man.
  • In "Great Expectations," an adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, Jeremy Irving, Ralph Fiennes, and Helena Bonham Carter star in a story about an orphan who becomes a gentleman.
  • Saoirse Ronan stars in "How I Live Now" as a girl who must fight to survive when the U.K. turns to a violent military state.
