The rumors about the female lead in "Batman vs. Superman" have been flying for a while now. Although initial reports posited the leading lady would be a love interest (yawn), we now know she's going to be Wonder Woman herself (yay!). As Latino Review's El Mayimbe tweeted in November, Gal Gadot will be playing the wondrous woman herself. It was previously reported that Gadot, Olga Kurylenko, and Elodie Yung were testing for the role.
Israeli-born Gadot won the Miss Israel pageant in 2004 and went on to roles in "Fast & Furious, "Date Night," "Knight and Day," "Fast Five," and "Fast & Furious Six."
Wonder Woman has dallied with both Batman and Superman in various story arcs, but she's known for being an Amazonian heroine in the style of Diana, the virginal Greek goddess who didn't have much time or patience for romance. Naturally, people of a certain age will recall Lynda Carter's fabulous turn as Wonder Woman in the TV series from the '70s.
Zack Snyder's official statement on the matter is: "Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
We're still waiting for a stand-alone "Wonder Woman" film, but in the meantime this sounds pretty good.
