Brie Larson, who took home a Gotham Award for her role in "Short Term 12," and Emilia "Mother of Dragons" Clarke are currently up for the role of Sarah Connor in the upcoming reboot of "The Terminator," reports Deadline. Both were on a shortlist The Hollywood Reporter released last month.
The project has been in limbo for a couple of years now, beset with behind-the-scenes battles that would make even the hardiest futuristic killing machine sigh with exhaustion. Now it's slated for a July 2015 release, and Alan Taylor is attached to direct. Taylor made a big splash this fall with "Thor: The Dark World," but perhaps more importantly, he directed Clarke on several episodes of "Game of Thrones," including the season-end whopper "Fire and Blood."
It will be tough to fill the boots of the OG Connor, Linda Hamilton, who made the character into an iconic action hero, if not one of the most memorable action heroines of modern cinema. If Larson snags this role, it would be a game-changer for the young actor, who is primarily known for excellent indie performances. Clarke doesn't have many film credits to her name, but on the other hand, we have seen her eat the fresh and bloody heart of a stallion before walking into a pyre. She is the blood of the dragon, after all.
Either way, this looks a lot more interesting than previous attempts to pump some steel into this series, like 2009's "Terminator Salvation." Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently attached to reprise his role as the eponymous time-traveling assassin. Insert your "I'll be back" joke of choice here.
