Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Terminator 2'TriStar Pictures/Everett

"Terminator" will be back ... on television.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the upcoming fifth film are working to return the franchise to the small screen four years after the end of Fox's "The Sarah Conner Chronicles." The new series, headed by "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, will go hand-in-hand with the movie reboot.

The television series will jump off of a critical moment in the original 1984 "Terminator" movie. Then, as the trilogy reboot and the show progress, they'll intersect "in surprising and dramatic ways."

After languishing in limbo for some time, the movie reboot of "Terminator" is finally starting to heat up, with a slated July 2015 release. As we reported earlier, "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke and "21 Jump Street" actress Brie Larson are rumored to be on the short list to play Sarah Conner. (Interestingly, Clarke's fellow "Game of Thrones" cast member Lena Headey played Sarah in the Fox series.)

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise the famous title role.
