Last week Bryan Singer, who is helming next summer's confusing-sounding "X-Men: Days of Future Past," a superhero movie that unites the original cast of his first two "X"-films with the younger, sexier "X-Men: First Class" cast in a jumble of time travel/alternate dimension mumbo jumbo, let out a cryptic tweet that seemed to be indicating that he would also be directing the follow-up to "Days of Future Past." That tweet ("#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!") has given way to concrete details, courtesy of Vulture.

It seems that, yes, "X-Men: Apocalypse," said to feature the villainous first mutant Apocalypse for his inaugural big screen appearance, will debut in the summer of 2016 and Singer will be back in the director's chair. This is his first back-to-back "X" endeavor since "X-Men" (2000) and "X2: X-Men United" (2003). If you'll recall, the director sat out of the abysmal "X-Men: The Last Stand" as well as series reboot "X-Men: First Class."

While "X-Men: Days of Future Past" allows for the return of the original "X"-cast (including Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman), Vulture also confirms that the new film will focus on the sexy "First Class" cast, which counts James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender amongst its mutant-y ranks.

A lot is riding on "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Not only is a huge tent pole movie set to establish not only the "X-Men: Apocalypse" sequel but start to incrementally build Fox's own version of the Marvel universe, but it was also really, really, ridiculously expensive. In fact, after "Avatar," it's Fox's most expensive movie. Ever. And this was the studio that made "Cleopatra" and "The Abyss." With a budget that recently surpassed $225 million, Fox is hoping these mutants' powers are really super.
