The new trailer for "Earth to Echo" is enigmatic to say the least -- there's not much action and very little by way of character introduction, though perhaps that's by design.

"Earth to Echo" tells the story of a trio of young friends -- played by Teo Halm, Brian "Astro" Bradley, Reese Hartwig -- who suddenly start receiving cryptic text messages on their phones. Their pleas for help from adults are waved off, until they stumble upon a crash site and an alien, who enlists them on a mysterious mission.

Not much of that story is told is the teaser, though; it focuses primarily on the alien's crash, and the boys' discovery. It's mildly intriguing, but not exactly riveting; we've seen similar scenes before. A longer trailer will hopefully flesh out these characters more, and delve deeper into the text message mystery -- otherwise it seems this "Echo" might best be left unheard.

"Earth to Echo" opens on April 25, 2014.
