Marvel has unveiled the first image depicting the full line-up of "The Guardians of the Galaxy," and this ragtag crew certainly seems like an unlikely choice to save the day.
Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt look more or less like themselves as Gamora and Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord), followed by Rocket Raccoon (a CGI character voiced by Bradley Cooper), Drax the Destroyer (wrestler Dave Bautista), and Groot (a CGI tree-like monster voiced by Vin Diesel).
According to the official synopsis, Peter steals a mysterious orb coveted by the villain Ronan, who's intent on destroying the universe, and reluctantly joins forces with the rest of Guardians to help evade Ronan. The synopsis continues: "[W]hen Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand -- with the galaxy's fate in the balance."
"Guardians of the Galaxy," which also stars Benicio Del Toro, Glenn Close, Djimon Hounsou, and Lee Pace, blasts into theaters on August 1.
