Opening nationwide this Friday, "Lone Survivor" has already been receiving praise for its realistic portrayal of modern-day combat.
Based on the failed 2005 mission "Operation Red Wings," the film revolves around members of SEAL Team 10, who are tasked to bring down a top Taliban leader. And, in order to make the combat appear as authentic as possible, director Peter Berg and writer Marcus Luttrell -- the Navy SEAL whose story inspired the film -- employed a team of military veterans to put the actors through SEAL training.
The rigorous combat training put the actors through their paces (as seen in this exclusive clip), but it certainly seems to have paid off. As AP critic Jocelyn Noveck wrote, "the action scenes -- basically, one protracted, harrowing firefight -- feel as realistic as any we've seen on the screen for some time."
"Lone Survivor" stars Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Foster, and Emile Hirsch as the courageous Navy SEALs on the covert mission that quickly gets compromised.
